Facilities for children, adults and the elderly are provided in the building,
which was the winner of a national architectural competition. The centre
has been designed with people with disabilities in mind.
Space is provided for hospitality, meetings, ecumenical gatherings, study,
and social activities. It is a meeting place for congregation and community.
There is also a visitor centre for the many people who come to Orkney for
short or long stays. This features a multi-lingual audio-visual presentation
of the story of St Magnus and the Cathedral, and also promotes the work of
the Society of Friends of St Magnus Cathedral.
There is a study-library, incorporating an image in stained-glass from the
contemporary Cathedral west window. The study library is equipped with resources
for young people and adults involved in leading worship and in theological
study. It also has a section of books about Orkney and Norway.
Equipment available for use within rooms includes white boards or pin boards.
An overhead
projector, television with video recorder and flip
charts can be supplied. The Friends Room has a
large wall mounted screen which can be linked to a
laptop computer - ideal for presentations! There is
an induction loop and P.A. system in the main hall
which caters for the hard of hearing
Most of the rooms are equipped with blinds to
enable the showing of slides or presentations.
Picture rails are installed so that photography,
paintings or other artwork can be presented easily.
Various seating arrangements can be catered for
and fold-away tables are available.
The main hall floor area is marked out
for badminton and is suitable for other sports such as
volley ball. Seating and table arrangements within
the main hall can easily cater for events such as
coffee mornings, whist drives etc. When booking
the main hall, kitchen facilities are included in the
price.

band practice as well as offering
all the facilities of a meeting
room.
